Produced by Soulgroup Studio during LA48HR FILM FESTIVAL 9-11 Oct 2020, to support Goal #5 and Goal #16 of the UN Global Goals
Dedicated to Adv Iyavar Chetty | In Memory of Dean Greg Ricks (1946-2020)
Verse 1
Little girl
Lying in your bed
Where’s the fairytale that
Used to fill your little head
Now your dreams have painful endings
God how I hate pretending
CHORUS
That everything’s fine
No they wouldn’t believe me
They’d think that I was lying
I didn’t tell but it hurt me
When I was a child
She cries
Shh.. just you be strong
You’re my little little little angel
You did no wrong
Just you be strong
Go on cry (Kala!), cry (Kala!),
Let your river of pain run dry
Cry, cry, let your river of pain run dry
Live so your beauty inspires the world
You have just got to be
Strong for thee
Other mother, lover, little girl
(Mama, s’thandwa, ntombazana…)
Verse 2
Little girl
Staring in the mirror
You’re a woman now but
Still you feel the shame you shiver
In sadness now
Just thinking how
The fathers we trust with our very lives
and the men who claim us as their wives
They could all be guilty
And the little girl feels… filthy
All her life.
Chorus
Pretending everythings fine
No they wouldn’t believe me
They’d think that I was lying
I didn’t tell but it hurt me
When I was a child
She cries….
Shhh…
BRIDGE
They won’t believe you
They won’t believe me now
We were so happy
What happened woman-child
Nkululeko Mama! Nkululeko ntombazana!
Nkululeko Mama! Nkululeko ntombazana!
No matter how we grow
We’ll always know
The hurt inside
No matter where we go
The story’s told
Unhappy woman-child
Break the mould
We’ve got to
Break the mould
Unhappy woman child
Break the mould, though the story’s told
Together we can break the mould
Unhappy woman-child…
Together we can break that mould
Little girl
Hmmmm
Little girl
Shh….
THE SONG
Composed to respond to the injustice of three generations of women all abused by the same predator.
From its first performance at the Playhouse Women's Arts Festival in 1997, Nadine has performed this rallying call to action at multiple 16 Days of Activism Rallies, community vigils and at the European Union conference in Belgium.
THE SHORT-FILM
Draws on the global research conducted by Nadine Naidoo, as Social Entrepreneur in Residence at Duke University, to analyze global solutions to fight online child sexual exploitation.
Produced during the LA48HR Film Festival, this 7min silent, musical film, provides a narrative setting for the song, expanding the universe of child abuse offline, to the present day pandemic. This musical call to action joins the dots between two "enablers" of abuse as documented in the research:
1) internet and technology, the great innovations of our time, catalyze and memorialize the abuse of children and women by connecting previously unconnected predators and disconnect victims from their care-givers.
2) caregivers (parents , families, friends. teachers, clergy) perpetuate the cycle of abuse by protecting predators who are family members and family friends, and in so doing, perpetrate secondary victimization.
THE BOOK
Combining the research and advocacy of Advocate Iyavar Chetty & Nadine Naidoo, this compendium provides readers who are interested in understanding the scope and width of this invisible war against our children, with "A Legal and Social Entrepreneurial Guide to the Problem and Solutions to fighting child sexual abuse online and offline"

Mobilising global voices to support our appeal during United Nations Stand Up and Speak Out Campaign
There are many visionaries whose untiring work the world does not know as well as the work of Madiba. Advocate Iyavar Chetty is one of those tireless visionaries protecting children... honored to have such a wise father figure in my activist journey
Covid-19 has made it unsafe at home for women and children. But can we agree on what constitutes abuse?
Though this video was produced years ago to give voice to the experiences of victims turned survivors and healers at a community helpline, their story is universal.
Have you been questioning.....Who Am I ? What Is God's Purpose for my life?
This song came through during my journey of self-enquiry - many light years ago.
Opening Chant:
Ngifuna ukuthanda (I want to love)
The Universe supports action - not Thought.
Verse 1:
You look at me and in my eyes
You sense my soul, you begin to cry
But as I speak, you want to know
How can I be so sure of my tomorrow
You say: I don't see you praying
I cry: I don't show my faith
You sigh: What keeps you believing?
And I reply: One day I'll die, but I know why, I live today...
CHORUS
You know I'm not what you see
I'm nothing but a Possibility
My Spirit free each day I live
Gone is me the Taker, Now it's time to Give
No I'm not what you see,
I'm Nothing but, a Possibility
My Spirit free each day I live,
Are we just Takers... or were we born to Give?
Verse 2
We look around and in this world
We sense the joy and we feel the hurt
I move to change the pain I see
But as I try, you react to me
You say: I don't see you praying
I cry: I don't show my faith
You sigh: What keeps you believing?
And I reply: Someday I'll die, but I know I have lived today...
CHORUS
You know I'm not what you see
I'm nothing but a Possibility
My Spirit free each day I live
Gone is me the Taker, Now it's time to Give
No I'm not what you see,
I'm Nothing but, a Possibility
My Spirit free each day I live,
Are we just Takers... or were we born to Give?
